Your train was canceled or you missed the connection due to a delay? Under EU passenger rights you have the choice between continuing your journey and a fare refund, and in the case of a large delay at your destination, additional compensation.

In the case of a train cancellation or a foreseeably large delay, you can choose: alternative onward transport (including by a different train) or a refund of the fare for the journey you did not take or that became pointless.
If you arrive at your destination with a significant delay, you are additionally entitled to delay compensation (from 60 min., 25%; from 120 min., 50% of the fare).

Do I get my money back if the train is canceled?

Yes. In the case of a train cancellation you can have the fare refunded if you do not begin the journey or break it off because it has become pointless. Alternatively, you are entitled to other transport to your destination.

Am I additionally entitled to compensation?

If you still reach your destination (late), delay compensation applies: from 60 minutes, 25%; from 120 minutes, 50% of the fare. A refund and compensation can be combined depending on the situation.
