What you should do now
- 1
1. Request a data copy
Demand the free self-disclosure or data copy (Art. 15 DSGVO) and check every entry for accuracy and being up to date.
- 2
2. Challenge what is wrong in writing
Ask the credit agency to correct wrong entries (Art. 16) or delete unlawful or settled ones (Art. 17), with a deadline and proof.
- 3
3. Start with the creditor
Often the error is with the reporting company. Demand the correction of the report there too.
- 4
4. Use your right to complain
If that does not help, you can complain to the data protection supervisory authority of your federal state (Art. 77 DSGVO).
Frequently asked questions
When must a Schufa entry be deleted?
Wrong entries must be corrected or deleted. Settled claims are deleted after fixed deadlines (for example day-precise deletion of settled debt collection data after a short period; others after annual deadlines, § 31 BDSG / codes of conduct). You can challenge unfounded or disputed entries.
Does the Schufa disclosure cost anything?
No. The data copy under Art. 15 DSGVO is free once. Do not let yourself be pushed into a paid subscription if you only want to check your data.
