A matchmaking service sold you expensive 'partner suggestions', often several thousand euros in advance? You are not trapped: you can cancel such contracts at any time, and a large part of the prepayment is often refundable.

Matchmaking contracts are 'services of a higher kind' and can therefore be canceled at any time (§ 627 BGB). For services not yet rendered, the prepayment must be refunded pro rata.
The actual matchmaking fee is, similar to marriage brokering (§ 656 BGB), hard to enforce in court. If the contract was concluded away from business premises or through distance selling, a 14-day right of withdrawal may also apply.

Can I cancel a matchmaking contract early?

Do I get my prepayment back?

For the portion not yet 'used up', generally yes. If, for example, only a few of the paid partner suggestions were delivered, the rest must be refunded pro rata. If the contract was concluded at the door, by phone or online, a 14-day right of withdrawal may also apply.
