Check the amount

Your chances of getting your money back

Sickness benefit amounts to 70% of your gross earnings, but at most 90% of net earnings (§ 47 SGB V), up to the contribution assessment ceiling. From this amount, your shares for pension, unemployment, and long-term care insurance are still deducted.
Sickness benefit is paid for the same illness for at most 78 weeks within three years (minus the period of continued pay). Watch for uninterrupted sick notes so that the entitlement is not lost.

What you should do now

  1. 1

    1. Clarify the entitlement

Sickness benefit is available after the end of continued pay (generally from the 7th week).

  2. 2

    2. Estimate the amount

70% of gross, at most 90% of net, minus social insurance shares.

  3. 3

    3. Keep sick notes uninterrupted

Watch for a seamless follow-up certificate so the entitlement is not interrupted.

  4. 4

    4. Object if there are problems

If the calculation is too low or benefit is refused, you can file an objection (§ 84 SGG).
