Frequently asked questions
Who is entitled to child sickness benefit?
Parents with statutory insurance and an entitlement to sickness benefit, whose child (as a rule under 12 years or with a disability) is also covered by statutory insurance and, per a medical certificate, needs care, if no other person living in the household can take over the care (§ 45 SGB V).
How many days am I entitled to?
There is a set number of days per child and parent each year (more for single parents), capped by an annual maximum when there are several children. The exact number of days is adjusted politically, so in case of doubt ask your health insurer about the current status.
