Application / objection

Your chances of getting your money back

Initial equipment for the apartment (furniture, household goods), for clothing and during pregnancy and birth is provided separately (§ 24 Abs. 3 SGB II), as a grant that does not have to be repaid.
The benefit does not have to be saved up from the standard rate. It can be granted as a cash or in-kind benefit (also flat rates/vouchers). If refused, you can file an objection within one month.

Frequently asked questions

Is the initial equipment a loan?

No. The initial equipment under § 24 Abs. 3 SGB II is a grant and does not have to be repaid, unlike loans for one-time needs that would have to be saved from the standard rate. It is provided additionally.

When am I entitled to initial equipment?

In particular when moving into an apartment for the first time (for example after moving out of the parental home, after a separation, after homelessness), during pregnancy and birth, and for initial equipment with clothing. Submit the application if possible before the purchase.
