What you should do now
- 1
1. Check the term
Are you still in the minimum term or already in the renewal? In the renewal, the short one-month period applies.
- 2
2. Terminate in text form
Terminate in writing or by email with your contract and customer number. Demand a termination confirmation with the end of the contract.
- 3
3. Take your number with you
If you want to switch, request the number porting in good time; this is still possible within a certain window even after the contract ends.
- 4
4. Insist on a confirmation
Without a confirmation, follow up. If the provider keeps debiting despite the termination, object and reclaim the amounts.
Frequently asked questions
Will my contract still renew for a whole year?
No, for contracts covered by the new rule. After the minimum term expires, they may only renew for an indefinite period and are then cancelable with one month's notice (§ 56 TKG).
In what form do I have to terminate?
Text form is sufficient, so for example an email or an online termination. A handwritten signature is not strictly necessary. What matters is proof of receipt and timing.
