- 2
2. Clarify the reason
After probation: giving up or changing career (4-week period) or an important reason (without notice)?
- 3
3. Observe the written form
The notice must be given in writing (with a signature); for an important reason, state the reasons.
- 4
4. Use advice
The chamber (IHK/HWK), the youth or trainee representation, or a union advise free of charge.
Frequently asked questions
Can I simply drop out of my training?
During the probation period, yes: there notice can be given at any time without a period and without a reason (§ 22 para. 1 BBiG). After the probation period, you can give notice with a four-week period if you want to give up the training or change careers, or without notice for an important reason. The notice must always be in writing.
Do I have to pay damages if I drop out?
With a termination during the probation period or with the statutory period, generally not. It can be different if you break off after the probation period without an important reason, without notice and unjustifiably; then damages exceptionally come into consideration. When in doubt, seek advice from the chamber or a union.
