Forged lawyer's letter

With this scam the mail looks like genuine lawyer's post: a real firm name, a real address, a high demand, a short deadline, the threat of a lawsuit. The firm named knows nothing about it and is a victim itself. A hit in the official register of lawyers only proves that the firm exists, not that the letter came from them. Compare the phone number, email domain, address and bank details against the register and the legal notice, and if in doubt ask the firm, using the number from the register, never the one from the letter. A letter is not a court: a genuine Mahnbescheid comes from the Amtsgericht in a yellow envelope, and there a two-week deadline applies for the objection.
