Attempt (Criminal Offense)
An act begun but not completed.
An attempt exists when the perpetrator directly commences the commission of the offense but does not complete it. An attempt is always punishable in the case of serious offenses (Verbrechen), and in the case of lesser offenses (Vergehen) only where expressly provided. A voluntary withdrawal can result in freedom from punishment.
