After the deadline expires, prosecution is no longer possible.
Criminal offenses are also subject to limitation: after certain periods expire, which depend on the maximum penalty threatened, they may no longer be prosecuted. Murder does not become time-barred. The limitation period can be interrupted by certain measures.
