Gross Negligence
Violating the required care to an especially serious degree.
A person acts with gross negligence when they fail to make even the simplest, most obvious considerations. In payment transactions the term matters because your liability for the misuse of a payment instrument is generally limited to 50 euros. Only if you acted with fraudulent intent or breached your duties intentionally or through gross negligence can the bank claim the entire loss from you. Whether that is the case in a specific instance is decided by the courts, and the bank must prove the accusation.
