Fake payment page: what you can do now
A supposed buyer wanted to pay via a "secure payment service", reported a problem and sent a link. On the page behind it you were supposed to enter bank details or link an account. This page helps you act in the right order.
If you entered data: block it first.
The blocking hotline is free and reachable around the clock. An unnecessary call costs nothing, one that is too late costs a lot.
1. What happened?
Choose what applies best. Then we show you exactly the steps that fit your situation.
Has money already been debited?
This is a separate question, because both can apply at the same time.
Your immediate measures
- 1When in doubt, act as in the worst case: call the blocking emergency hotline 116 116 and have your account blocked.
- 2Then call your bank. Use the number on the back of your card, not a number from the message.
- 3Explicitly ask the bank to recall the payment. This is an attempt and only succeeds as long as the money has not yet been forwarded. No one can guarantee it.
- 4Change the passwords for your email and online banking from another, secure device.
- 5Do NOT open the fake page again and do not enter anything more there.
- 6Do not delete the message history. It is your most important piece of evidence.
- 7Check in your online banking whether a debit has appeared that you did not initiate.
